All about SharePoint Migration Tool

At Microsoft Ignite 2017 Microsoft announced a new free, simple, and fast migration solution to help you migrate content from on-premises SharePoint sites and file shares to SharePoint or OneDrive in Office 365.

The SharePoint Migration Tool lets you migrate your files from SharePoint on-premises document libraries or your on-premises file shares and easily move them to either SharePoint or OneDrive in Office 365. It is available to all Office 365 users.

Using the SharePoint Migration Tool from Microsoft with a few simple clicks you can begin to bring your information to the cloud and take advantage of the latest collaboration, intelligence, and security solutions with Office 365.

  • Let’s get started, so click on Next for Sign in to Office 365.

  • AUTHENTICATION: We must to authenticate to the destination,  the tenant where we will be migrating our files. Providing your username and password to the tenant associates the migration jobs you submit to this account. This allows us to resume our migration from another computer if needed by logging in with the same credentials. This account should be a site collection administrator of the destination you want to migrate to.

After Sign In into Office 365 a new interface like the image below shows up for selecting our local data that we want migrate to, which contains three sections :

  • Migrating data files from SharePoint Server document libraries.
  • Migrating data files from a local file share.
  • Bulk migration using a CSV file.

SCAN: After we click Migrate, a scan is performed on every file. A scan is always performed, even if you elect to not migrate your files (see Advanced Settings). The scan verifies that there is access to the data source and write access to the SharePoint Online destination. It also scans the file for known potential issues.

NOTE: The SharePoint Migration tool supports SharePoint Server 2013.

To download the tool, go to SharePoint Migration Tool.

Hope it will be helpful .
